Great Gatsby Soundtrack Review
May 22, 2013
Since the release of “Great Gatsby,” it has risen to the number two movie in the box office, not only for its spectacular acting but for its accompanying soundtrack.
“The Great Gatsby” soundtrack, released by Interscope on May 7, which features original music from Jay-Z, the album’s executive producer. Beyoncé, Lana Del Rey, Will.i.am, Florence + the Machine and other stars are also featured. The album opened with sales of 137,000 copies, about 87 percent of which were digital downloads.
The Gatsby soundtrack has been the best-selling movie soundtrack since The Hunger Games. This is the third soundtrack from a BazLuhrmann film to reach the top three, following “William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet” and “Moulin Rouge.”
Out of the whole album, I absolutely loved the contemporary feel of Florence and the Machine’s “Over the Love”, Lana Del Ray’s “Young and Beautiful”, and Sia’s “Kill and Run.” They brought me in and helped me feel what the actors were trying to portray.
I did not really like “Where the Wind Blows” by Coco O. of Quadron. I was waiting for it to pick up and reel me in, but it never really did.
“Love is the Drug” by Bryan Ferry with The Bryan Ferry Orchestra and “Crazy in Love” by EmeliSandé and The Bryan Ferry Orchestra is definitely something you could dance to, especially with its jazz vibe.
After watching the movie, I think the music was absolutely perfect. From the sadness of Daisy and the power of Gatsby it was a great arrangement of hip-hop, rock with jazz-age sounds and slow, longing music. I think this album is going to stay on top of the charts for quite a while along with the movie.

Cheerleaders Win First-Ever NC State Title
April 29, 2013
The Rams varsity cheerleaders have been training and practicing for the state cheer competition since the beginning of the year.
As part of their desire to become as competitive as possible, the team brought in a special coach from Miami to help them with the routines they used this year.
“Java is a Top Gun choreographer. He’s really good; he’s really well-known in the cheer world, and is also friends with our coach,” senior Anna White said.
Since September, practices for the competition were held three times a week, including extra tumbling classes. Out of the 18 cheerleaders at TC, 15 have been cheering since they started competing (the 2011-2012 season) and five have been cheering all four years at TC.
“I think we started to compete because the coaches knew that there was going to be more talent coming in and more girls trying out than there have been,” freshman Bailey Whitson said.
The squad came in first place at state, winning the hip-hop category in their division. Last year, the team came in second in only their first year of competing.
“I feel like it was a lot like All-Stars. There was even an all-star team that was competing at the same time as us, which was really cool,” freshman Cameron Comerford said.
All-Star cheerleading is routinely different than both high school and college cheerleading because most of the cheerleaders on a team do not attend the same school and do not participate in athletic cheering events.
“Our coaches saw that we had a lot of potential and that we have a high skill level. Plus, the schools around us were already competing or starting to compete,” sophomore Brianna Church said.
With the accomplishment of a state championship, the team decided to purchase state rings to commemorate the title.
“The seniors designed the rings to include our names, the year, and have a megaphone on the side,” Whitson said.
According to Comerford, the rings should be ready in five to six weeks when the team plans on having a special banquet to celebrate.
