Fuddruckers Brings New Experience to Burger Eating
February 7th, 2015
As a part of our Journalism class, we go on two annual trips; one at the beginning of the school year and one at the start of the new semester, each with a themed weekend. We recently went on our second semester trip; Mid-Winter, around the Asheville area and were able to experience our own version of The Amazing Race.
From searching for clues through-out our school, completing tasks at the local Fun Depot, watching movies, playing charades around the school, conquering different tracked ropes courses at the Asheville Tree Tops Adventure Park, and trading-up from sticky notes to a handful of unique items, I would call our 2015 Mid-Winter a complete success.
But of course, you have to stop and eat sometime.
Fuddruckers, located off of Charlotte Street in Downtown Asheville, offers the World’s Greatest Hamburgers®.
The Asheville Fuddruckers, located off of Charlotte Street.
With their fresh, 100% USDA All-American premium-cut beef, baked from scratch sesame-topped buns, and their legendary Build Your Own® market fresh produce bar; hand-leafed lettuce, sun-ripened tomatoes, dill pickles, sliced onions, pico de gallo, Fudds cheese sauce and much more, it’s hard to argue against.
Personally, I love cheese on everything I get. So, when I ordered the 1/3 lb Triple Cheeseburger, it was no surprise to my friends around me.
The burger was juicy, cheesy, and delicious along with their potato-wedged fries, which I also was able to dip in cheese.
The retro-style of the decor, arcade, and bakery also contribute to the fantastic experience of eating at Fuddruckers. With the amount of space in the dining area, with plenty of tables and booths to sit at, there was no problem in being able to sit with my friends; all 14 of us.
Since 1980, Fuddruckers has been serving up delicious food and a quality dining experience, that 35 years later, still pleases customers across America.

J&S Serves Up Amazing Home-Cookin', Holiday Fixins'
November 26th, 2014
Because Thanksgiving is so close, most people are thinking about turkeys and potatoes and pies and all of the other holiday fixins. Going to J&S Cafeteria, it was no different.
J&S Cafeteria, located locally in the River Ridge Shopping Center, in Enka and Fletcher, and on Airport Road, offers a variety of food. And especially for the holidays, many selections won’t hurt your healthier eating too much either.
Serving fresh-made entrees and vegetables (cooked with no animal fats and oils or other trans-fats not naturally occurring, by the way), J&S offers “traditional foods for the health conscious.”
J&S opened in 1984. With their home cooking and fair prices, J&S was an overnight success. The River Ridge location started with 65 employees, and J&S still has 20 of the original employees with them today. They have a fifth location in Hickory as well.
Now, 30 years later, J&S still serves delicious meals. This past Sunday, I was able to have a taste of the country-style steak, mashed potatoes, cooked vegetable medley, soft rolls, and pumpkin pie.
And can I say, it was absolutely delicious.
The service is incredible, the food is incredible, and the prices are incredible.
Although most of the inhabitants of the cafeteria were of the older generation, I would suggest J&S to anyone looking to get good home-cooked food, away from home, while still being able to save money.

Spice Lattes Add Flavor to Season
October 25th, 2014
Among all of the traditions of fall like apple picking, pulling out warm fuzzy sweaters, and carving pumpkins, grabbing a steaming hot pumpkin spice latte is definitely at the top of the list or even having it iced is pretty amazing, too.
Though the latte itself is a pretty popular drink there are people on the opposite side of the spectrum who do in fact actually hate it, thinking that it is either to sugary or masking the taste of the actual coffee too much.
The iced latte itself getting filled with espresso, pumpkin, fall spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves) and milk over ice with sweetened whipped cream is one of impeccable taste quality. But if you are looking to have a stronger taste of the pumpkin flavor I would suggest getting the latte hot.
Comparing Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts’ side-by-side on cost, nutrition, and taste; the competition was fierce.
Dunkin’ is constantly having discounts on their merchandise, so finding a cheap drink is not that difficult. It worked out that while comparing these two delicious coffee shops Dunkin’ has been having a $1.99 medium latte sale, so grabbing my pumpkin spice latte was not expensive at all. Compared to the $4.42 of grabbing a medium (16oz.) latte at Starbucks, Dunkin’ is definitely the more money saving option.
Along with being cheaper, the Pumpkin Creme Brulee at Dunkin’ was only 350 calories and 30 milligrams of cholesterol in comparison to 380 calories and 50 milligrams of cholesterol at Starbucks.
With taste though, the original pumpkin taste found at Starbucks is much more appealing. Although both places have amazing pumpkin lattes, I’m always one for the original.
Whether you want a cheaper drink or a more classic taste, both are delicious and I would recommend Dunkin’ Donuts’ and Starbucks to the acclaimed pumpkin spice latte drinker.

The Appetizer
November 4th, 2014
I am a fan of good food.
And so, for my blog, I thought trying something a little different by way of a food blog would be the way to go… so, for the next several months, I will be going around to different restaurants, kitchens, foods classes, and more trying out “The Chef’s Special.”
That means whenever I go into a restaurant or whatever it is, I will be asking the head chef, manager, or whoever is in charge to try either their special or their favorite thing to eat at the restaurant.
The thing is, this is going to be more than just a food critique or a food review. It is going to be a food experience. From the people surrounding me, the atmosphere of the location, the cooks themselves, and, of course, the food, I will be experiencing everything from burgers and fries to coffee to ice cream and whatever else is out there for me to try.
With the help of my friends, I hope to experience food in a way that few teenagers have. Today, food blogs are usually about how to make food, or are focusing on food health and nutrition. With food, it should be about more than just eating it or seeing whether you enjoyed the food or not. Eating food should be about the entire experience all the way from walking in to actually eating the food. But it should be more than that.
It should also be about the people behind those dishes.
So, I will be talking with the creators or the lovers of the food that they serve to get a different taste of Asheville.
If you haven’t already read it, I would also encourage you to go and look at my food review on pumpkin spice lattés that I wrote in the first issue of the Golden Fleece newspaper, which you can find HERE.
Until my next post, here’s a video I found dealing with food made by the designers and tasted by some lucky people. Hope it gets you inspired to go out and enjoy something special soon, too.
